22, at Camp Nelson National Cemetery in Nicholasville. He died at Central Baptist Hospital, Lexington. A native of Eminence, KY he was a country boy, proud veteran, loving husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed a lengthy military career. He retired from the United States Air Force in 1963 with the rank of Major after receiving many distinguished service awards.
He was past Commander of the 391st Bomb Group and veteran of WWII and the Korean War. Follow- ing his military career he served as principal of the Somerset Vocational School and was instrumental in establishing the first and only Federal Aviation Maintenance School in Kentucky in 1970. He retired from the Dept. of Education in 1986. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Somerset, where he served as deacon and elder.
He was cofounder of the First Christian Church of Ft. Walton Beach Florida; past member of the Rotary, Kiwanis, Elks, and YMCA. He was the son of the late Stanley and Aleene Constantine McCarty. He was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Wilson McCarty. Survivors include his son, Jim McCarty (Jenny), Frankfort; two daughters, Pattie Williams, Louisville; and Debby Smart (Ed), Oxford, OH; three sisters, Betsy Moore, Cambellsburg, KY, Bertha Everett, Huntsville, AL, Rosa Clark, LaGrange; three brothers, Gilbert McCarty, Frankfort; Herbert McCarty, Campbellsburg; and Glenn McCarty, Lexington; six grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren.
Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren Todd Gaslin (Tracy), Louisville; Jon Gaslin (Becky), Michael Tohill (Rachel), Charlotte, NC, Ryan Tohill, Indianapolis, IN, Emily and Alicia McCarty, Frankfort. 16, 2005 at his home on Spencer Road. He was born Jan. 13, 1921 in Breathitt County. He was a farmer, retired superintendent for Foster and Creighton Construction, and an avid fisherman. As an active and faithful member of Hope Church of God, he served as Sunday School teacher for 45 years and was a member of the Board of Trustees.
He was the son of the late McKinley Fugate and the late Rosalee Williams Mann. He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Floria Mann Fugate, and a son, Paul C. Fugate. Surviving are a son, Garroll Seldon Fugate, Mt. Sterling, KY; three daughters: Gaye Fugate Gomulka, New York City, Karen Fugate, New Smyrna Beach, FL, Gwenda (Ross) Winder, Lexington; a foster daughter, Betty Payne (Rick) Miller, Paint Lick; three grandchildren: Brooke R.

20, 1937 and was the son of the late Archie Gray and Juanita James Burchfield Sr. He was a farmer and a member of the Minorsville Christian Church where he served as a Deacon. He was a Kentucky Colonel, and was a member of the Masonic Lodge. He is currently the reigning Kentucky Croquet State Champion and having won 16 state championships, nine singles and seven doubles, he is in the Kentucky Croquet Hall of Fame. In 1982 he won the National (with Mark) in New York in Central Park, 1985 and won Club Team Nationals, Palm Beach, FL, 1987 Won National (with Damon) in Newport, RI, 1987 won Club Team National in Palm Beach, FL, and won the International Croquet Tournament.
He is also in the U.S.C.A. Croquet Hall of Fame, he was also an International Ambassador for the U.S.C.A. Currently there is a movie under contract about Archie's croquet experiences. He was featured in a number of magazine articles including New Yorker, Sports Illustrated, People Magazine, and Connoisseur Magazine. He was also on several television programs including: On The Road Again, The Pat Sajak Show, Lifestyle On Sports and Portrait of America.
Survivors in addition to his wife include children: David Gray (Cindi) Burchfield, Mark Coleman (Jennifer) Burchfield, both of Stamping Ground, Reba Carol (Jimbo) Lewis, Frankfort, KY, Shari Elizabeth (David) Coleman, Stamping Ground, KY; and 12 grandchildren: Jennifer, David, Markus, Travis, Justin and Ashley Burchfield, Jami and Jimmy Lewis, Joy, Hope, Buddy and Kacey Coleman. Also survived by a special mother-in-law, Opal Metts and a special sister-in-law, Ruby Tuttle. Funeral services will be 2 pm Sat.
